Is it normal to see some white back light on LCD tvs during black background moments?

Just purchased a Sony 40" LCD, 120 hz, HDTV/1080p TV. And my only gripe is when my screen is showing a black background, you can see the areas of the screen where the whiter areas from the backlight show. It's barely noticeable, but I wanted to make sure it's a fairly normal thing w LCD tvs?

Why everyone is working on LCD tvs despite the fact that Plasmas are better than Lcd tvs?

After analysing a lot, I concluded that despite being weaker on the burn-in and weight and power fronts, plasmas are much better than lcd tvs and the manufacturers also aceept this thing? Then what don't they upgrade the plasma technology in place of lcd tvs?
