How do you change a insignia or any am fm radio from getting power from an electrical socket to just batteries?

I want to take my insignia am fm radio/ipod player on a trip and would like to play music out loud at the hotel. There are batteries in the device but when i unplug it, it doesn't work on it's own and was wondering if it is possible to have it work on just batteries. Help???
