How come my Charter HD cable box in not taking advantage of my Monster HDMI-To-DVI cable?

Hi I have HDTV with 1080i resolution. Anyways, the picture channels they look like if I was watching a cheap standard TV. My Charter cable box it is HD & I am using Monster cable HDMI-To-DVI? What I am going wrong? I watch History channel & the picture it is not HD?
