Do you prefer to make an HDR photo in Photoshop or with other software?

I have Photoshop CS3 but I read a tutorial, and what a bear! It's a lot of steps to make an HDR. I was thinking about downloading one of the free programs you see if you google HDR...is that easier? How much difference is there in the final product? Any suggestions?

I have a question about HDR in photoshop?

I have photoshop elements and CS3. Does elements have HDR? I know CS3 does. Is the HDR in CS3 good enough or should I get a separate program like photomatix?
